Saturday morning quiet time with Angela

Today our Scripture reading will come from 2 Corinthians 10:5. "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."

"Taking every thought captive!"  Boy how many times am I in need of that!

Our minds and our thoughts, in particular is where it all begins. That's where the battles sprout, isn't it?

How many of us act before we think?  None of us sane folks.  Though a lot of us blame our actions on "us not thinking."  Truth be told, we thought, but the overwhelming sensation to act became so intense until we acted.  And we acted because we wanted to.  Plain and simple.

Now maybe we don't think our actions through to include the obvious consequences of said acts, but we who are legally sane, think before we heed.

My two observations are:

1.  Paul wants to destroy the blasphemy.

2.  We are to take every thought captive.

My two applications: {I wrote these applications using "you" "your" or "we" for the sole purpose of your reading}

1.  Bring our thoughts captive:  To bring every thought under the submission of God we must first know that we are of God, and being of God gives us the ability in Him to bring our thoughts under His submission.

2.  destroying speculation and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God.  Once we've brought our thoughts under God, we must be sure that we are biblically sound in our doctrine.  For that I personally believe we should pray and:
  • Ask God to lead you to a Bible teaching church
  • And for those in ministry or who would just like to learn more about Scripture ask Him to lead you to a Bible teaching school... one that is Bible based and biblically sound.

And we should pray and ask the Lord to help us not become haughty, "blatantly and disdainfully proud" and lofty, "elevated in character or spirit in status, or overbearing in manner."

Now how do we bring our thoughts under God's submission?

When we're a child of God He gives us His Holy Spirit.  Whenever a believer goes against God's standards the Spirit that is within us will alert us in many ways.  Sometimes it will blatantly tell us that we're wrong.  Other times we will have an uneasiness or an unsettling deep within {at which time we should pray and ask God to reveal why we are having such a feeling}.

When God shows us the "why" we are to immediately make the necessary adjustments.

    • We confess our sins and our thoughts that are contrary to God's standards.
    • We speak Scripture to ourselves, using verses that will help us rise against whatever unsound thoughts we are having.

Most of all believer, we must purpose in our hearts to submit our thoughts to God, then we must confess and pray anytime the wrong thoughts emerge.

So in essence, we must: submit, confess, and pray.  Submit, confess and pray. ...

    The prayer—
Lord You alone know my thoughts, my ways and my tendencies.
You know that I am one to get carried away in her thoughts, pondering, wondering, searching for solutions, constantly playing out scenarios.
Help me to always remember to bring my thoughts under the control, not to let them take me away.
Allow me to always examine them so that You may be pleased in my thinking.
Allow me to be a woman whose obedience to You begins in her heart, moves to my head and is manifested in my behavior.
I ask this in my Savior Jesus Christ name.  Amen
