are your strongholds defeating your goals?
If you've been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that 2014 is my year to "Make It Happen."
I want to really put forth some effort in making some of my goals. . . spiritual, family, health, education and so on . . . happen. Upon meditating last night I realized that a lot of us have strongholds. Actually I realized this after meditation on the words that I'd read from Beth Moore's book 'Breaking Free.'
After sitting back and examining me, I began to think even more. We can attempt to do all sorts of things, but for the Christian, if we don't examine ourselves and sincerely work at getting ourselves right with God first, we are working in vain.
I am not alluding to us being perfect because we aren't and never will be. Nor am I saying that if we want God to do this then we must do that... . But what I am saying is that we cannot live any way we want on purpose and expect God to bless us with the desires of our hearts when we are blatantly disregard what He shows us our strongholds.
Let me ask you to examine your life.
What strongholds is God showing you right now? Which ones have been gnawing at your heart and soul for a while?
Beth Moore says, "A stronghold is any argument or pretension that 'sets is itself up against the knowledge of God.' The wording in the King James Version draws a clearer image of a stronghold.
Every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.
A stronghold is anything that exalts itself in our minds, "pretending" to be bigger or more powerful than our God. It steals much of our focus and causes us to feel overpowered. Controlled. Mastered.
Regardless of what our stronghold is, it is something that consumes so much of our mental and emotional energy that our abundant life is strangled--our callings remain largely unfilled and our believing lives are virtually ineffective
.
Needless-to-say, these are the enemy's precise goals for us."
Okay, now, with that being said, our goal for 2014 is still "Make It Happen," but our first goal has to be to get rid of the strongholds.
That doesn't mean not to work on any other goals, it just means that we have to first work on getting rid of the stronghold in conjunction with working on our other goals, if it is possible.
Do you have a clearer picture of what a stronghold is now? If you do, what areas have God identified to you? If you don't understand ask God to help you understand the definition and read it again, and then let Him identify to you what He wants.
Before I leave you, I want to say that the battle of a stronghold is primarily in our mind. To help us overcome our strongholds this year, we need to become familiar with our weapons. Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
Meditate on that passage. Ask God to help you with your plan of action for 2014 because this is the year that you are clamming "Make It Happen."
We will look more at our weapons and how to use them next time.
Don't forget to chart out your plan of action!
